Tangier

£1840 per person

Tangier, a Moroccan port on the Strait of Gibraltar, has been a strategic gateway between Africa and Europe since Phoenician times. Its whitewashed hillside medina is home to the Dar el Makhzen, a palace of the sultans that’s now a museum of Moroccan artifacts. The American Legation Museum, also in the medina, documents early diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Morocco in an 1821 Moorish-style former consulate.

Guarding the Strait of Gibraltar, Tangier has for centuries been Europes’s gateway to Africa. Its blend of cultures and influences is unique in Morocco – for much of its history it wasn’t even governed by Morocco.

The cooling breezes wafting in from the Mediterranean carry smells and sounds through the streets of Tangier, and you’ll often find locals enjoying a delicious meal and the abundant natural beauty that surrounds the city. From the Atlantic beaches of Achakkar to the lush green hills of Par Rmilat to narrow maze of mdina, leisurely Moroccan lunches can easily make their way into the early evenings.
